In this work, Masukawa conveys the dancers’ energy, progress, and passion.

Returning to WAAPA, where she studied, she found that working with the dancers highlighted the echoes and cycles that drive the ongoing evolution of classical dance.

She draws inspiration from the aesthetics of the 1970 Osaka World Expo and the architecture of Kenzo Tange. The Expo’s theme, “Progress and Harmony for Humanity,” marked a clear shift between epochs in Japan—an aspirational gesture toward a new future.

I feel that same sense of possibility when I am in the studio with these dancers - Yuiko Masukawa
